English Literature Lectures

Our Year 12 students were given the superb opportunity to attend a day of lectures held in Emmanuel Hall Westminster London. The event - chaired by former Chief Examiner Stella Canwell MBE -  was specifically focussed on the Love Through The Ages three hour  AQA A examination paper that forms 40% of their A Level English Literature grade. Presentations included Dr Peter Howarth speaking about poetic voices, Adrian Noble, theatre director of the RSC for over thirteen years, analysing aspects of Love in Shakespeare, Professor of Poetry at Manchester Metropolitan University, Michael Symmons Roberts, explorating poetry through his award-winning works - most movingly when he read from his poems based on the final text messages of those trapped in towers in the 9/11 atrocity.

After the lectures the students had the chance to walk through Westminster to view parliament Square, the Houses of Parliament, Downing Street and the Remembrance wreath-clad Cenotaph, and then make a short visit to The National Gallery and the Christmas Market in Trafalgar Square before the drive home.
