Attleborough Academy was proud to welcome Attleborough students, parents and staff for the Sixth Form Presentation Evening held to honour the achievement of the 2016 Year 13 group. The students had come from their universities or workplaces from all over the country, to join the celebrations. The evening was led by Head of Sixth Form Mr Andy Cole, supported by Director of Sixth Form, Mrs Carmina McConnell and was attended by former Head of Attleborough Sixth Form Mr Brian Hunt, AAN Principal Mr Neil McShane and all Sixth Form teachers and tutors. The guest speaker for the evening was successful actor and ex-student Nic Jackman.
During the evening, the Year 13 students were officially awarded their A Level certificates and there were a range of special awards. Subject leaders gave engaging presentations as they awarded the top prize for an individual student for specific high achievement in that subject and attributes such as remarkable progress made and endeavour shown were also recognised with staff citations and individual awards.
Former student Nic Jackman was invited back as guest of honour to join in the celebrations and congratulate them on their achievements. In his inspirational speech, Nic recognised that a key feature of success is down to hard work and determination. Nic told the assembled audience that “even in the face of rejection, you need to persevere and never lose sight of your dreams. The most important element of success is how you learn from your failures: you need to always take something from a missed opportunity and work even harder towards the next.”
Nic ended his speech by congratulating all the students present and wishing them all good luck in their future. Principal Mr McShane gave the final speech and awarded the Principal’s Award to the 2016 Head Boy and Girl. Once the speeches were concluded, staff, students and visitors then had another chance to socialise and reminisce about their time in the Sixth Form and have a commemorative photo taken by former staff members and superb photographic team Joan and Dave Jordan.
It was a wonderful evening and all the staff were exceedingly proud of the Year 13 Class of 2016.
