This March saw the third in our Sixth Form and Staff Giant Book Swap events, providing the great gift of some spectacular reading hours for everyone who took part!. These occasions have been set up by Assistant principal Mrs McConnell to promote the joy of reading across Attleborough Academy, by establishing a lunchtime event where everyone comes together to restock their home library and to share their views about specific texts and explore perspectives about reading generally. In the weeks leading up to the event Sixth Form students and staff donated hundreds of books, in return for which they were given book swap tokens ready to use to ‘purchase’ books at the event. It was exciting to note the extensive range of style and genre of texts that our students and staff enjoy reading as the piles of donated texts came in prior to the occasion.
When doors opened for the Book Swap, the Sixth Form block was buzzing with our staff and Sixth Formers discussing their great reads during the process of choosing their swaps. All remaining books at the end of the event were donated to local charity shops, thus also providing benefit for the local community. All in all this was very successful and enjoyable event.
